COMUNE DI ANTRONA SCHIERANCO (VB)

La vecchia parrocchiale, le cui origini risalgono intorno al 1200, sorgeva nel luogo dove ora sono le cappelle della via Crucis e fu sommersa dalla frana del 27 luglio 1642. Pochi giorni dopo la sua distruzione gli antronesi contattarono Bartolomeo Tami di Valleggia (Montescheno) affinché, nella veste di capomastro, costruisse la nuova chiesa ampliando l'oratorio di san Rocco.
Nel 1653 fu costruita la cappella dedicata alle anime Purganti situata di fronte a quella della B.V. del Carmine, terminata nel 1656. La costruzione del campanile fu iniziato nel 1656 e terminato nel 1660.
Il portico risale al 1685, anno in cui furono terminate le opere murarie della chiesa. Gli altari della chiesa sono di legno dorato e sono tutti opera del Guaglio, scultore locale, il primo di essi fu quello della Madonna del Carmine (1660-1670).
Tra il 1670 e il 1680 Giulio Guaglio si dedica al rifacimento in legno dell'altare di S. Antonio, la statua del santo risale al 1652.
Il ciborio dell'altare maggiore, completato nel 1686, è considerato tra le più belle opere di stile barocco del Piemonte. L'altare della B.V. del Rosario fu iniziato nel 1686 e terminato nel 1690. Dello stesso anno è anche quello delle Anime Purganti.
Numerose sono le altre opere ereditate dalla scuola del Guaglio: candelabri, busti, statue. Il fonte battesimale è uno dei pochi oggetti recuperati dalle macerie della vecchia chiesa.
Il pulpito che risale al 1720-21 è opera degli scultori vigezzini. Nel 1841 il ricavato dalla vendita dell'alpe Monte Moro (Montmor), fu utilizzato per la costruzione della bussola della porta centrale e per l'acquisto dell'organo.
Nel 1887 furono assegnati i lavori di decorazione ad alcuni pittori vigezzini tra i quali spicca il nome di Bemardino Peretti (vedere: Bertamini T., Antronapiana, ed. Libreria Giovannacci, 1987).

Wo jetzt die Kreuzwegkapellen sind, stand vormals die alte Pfarrkirche von 12.-13. Jahrhundert, die am 27. Juli 1642 von einem Bergrutsch zerstört wurde. Einige Tage spter wird der Mauermeister Bartolomeo Tami aus Valleggia (Montescheno) von den Dorfeinwohnern angestellt, um das Rocco - Oratorium zu erweitem, um dieses als neue Pfarrkirche verwenden zu können.
1653 wurde die Kapelle der "büssenden Seelen" gebaut, und ihr gegenüber wurde 1656 die Kapelle der Beata Vergine del Carmine erbaut. Der Glockenturm wurde 1656 angefangen und 1660 fertiggestellt. Der Bogengang so wie die Stützmauern der Kirche gehen aufs Jahr 1685 zurück.
Die Altare aus vergoldetem Holz waren das Werk des Holzschnitzers Gualio aus Antrona. Zuerst machte er den Altar der Madonna del Carmine (1660-1670), dann entschloss er sich im Jahre 1680 den Altar des heiligen Antonio, aus Holz wiederherzustellen (die Statue des Heiligen geht aber aufs Jahre 1652 zurück). Gualio vervollstündigte dann im Jahre 1686 das Ziborium des Hochaltars. Ein der schönsten Barokwerke in Piemont.
Der Altar der Beata Vergine del Rosario wurde 1686 angefangen und 1690 zu Ende geführt, gleich wie der Altar der "büssenden Seelen".
Die Schule des Gualio hat uns noch zahlreiche Werke hinterlassen: Armleuchter, Büsten, Statuen. Der Taufstein ist einer der wenigen Gegenstände, die aus dem Schutt der alten Kirche gerettet wurden. Die Kanzel von 1720/21 ist ein Kunstwerk der Holzschnitzer des Vigezzotals.
1841 wurde die Alpe Monte Moro (Montmour) verkauft; mit dem Gewinn wurde der Windfang des Haupteingangs gebaut und die Orgel erstanden.
1887 wurden die Ausschmückungsarbeiten Malern des Vigezzotals übergeben, unter denen sich Bernardino Peretti hervorhob.

The old parish church dating back to 1200 stood where the Chapels of the Way of the Cross are standing now and was buried by the landslide occurred on Jul. 27th, 1642.
A few days after the Antrona inhabitants charged the master builder Bartolomeo Tami from Valleggia (Montescheno) to rebuild the new church by enlarging the Oratory of S. Rocco.
In 1653 the chapel dedicated to the souls in purgatory was built in front of the chapel of the Blessed Madonna del Carmine, finished in 1656. The bell tower construction begun in 1656 and finished in 1660.
The portico dates back to 1685, when the church building works were finished. The church altars, of gilded wood, were all made by the local sculptor Guaglio. The first was the one dedicated to the Madonna del Carmine (1660-1670).
Between 1670 and 1680 Giulio Gualio devoted himself to the remaking of the wooden altar of S. Antonio, whose statue dates back to 1652. The high altar ciborium completed in 1686 is considered one of the most beautiful works in style of the Piedmontese baroque. The altar of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary was begun in 1686 and finished in 1690.
In the same year was also finished the altar of the Souls in Purgatory. Several are the other works inherited from the Guaglio school: candelabrums, busts, statues. The christening font is one of the few objects extracted from the rubble of the old church.
The pulpit of 1720-21 is work of the sculptors from the Vigezzo valley. In 1841 the proceeds of the sale of Alpe Monte Moro (montmor) were used for the construction of the revolving door of the main entrance and for the purchase of the organ.
In 1887 some painters of the Vigezzo valley, among which stands out the name of Bernardino Peretti, were assigned the decoration works. (See: Bertamini T., Antronapiana, ed. Libreria Giovannacci. 1987).
